Brunel Meredith Pre-school receives healthy award
Staff and children at Brunel Meredith pre-school were awarded certificates on 23rd November for completing the Healthy Pompey Pre-school Challenge.
Since its launch in January this year, eleven of the city's pre-schools have completed the Challenge promoting healthy living and active lifestyles and a further 53 are currently working towards certification.
"We're delighted to be awarding the staff and children at Brunel Meredith with certificates for completing the Healthy Pompey Pre-School Challenge. Everyone has worked really hard over the course of the year learning about the healthy topics and it's great to be able to recognise everybody's efforts," Andrea Wright, Healthy Pompey Food & Health Co-ordinator, said.
Certificates will be awarded in recognition of the work undertaken over the course of this year towards the Pre-school Challenge which sets the foundations for a healthy, active lifestyle by focusing on four keyareas: 'Eat Well' which covers healthy eating, 'Move More' which promotes being active, 'Growing Grub' which teaches the children about where food comes from and growing their own fruit and veg and 'Oral Health' to ensure the youngsters maintain healthy teeth.
The Challenge is part of the Healthy Pompey programme to tackle obesity in the city. The Pre-school Challenge provides a wide range of activities, equipment and support for pre-schoolers, staff and parents.
Healthy Pompey is a joint Portsmouth City Council and NHS Portsmouth programme to promote healthy lifestyles in the city.
