Staff and children at Busy Bees nursery have been awarded certificates for completing the Healthy Pompey Pre-school Challenge.
Since its launch in January this year, ten of the city’s pre-schools have completed the Challenge promoting healthy living and active lifestyles and a further 54 are currently working towards certification.
Andrea Wright, Healthy Pompey Food & Health Co-ordinator, said: “We’re delighted to be awarding the staff and children at Busy Bees with certificates for completing the Healthy Pompey Pre-School Challenge. Everyone has put in lots of effort over the course of the year on the healthy topics and it’s great to be able to recognise all the hard work,”
Certificates will be awarded in recognition of the work undertaken over the course of this year towards the Pre-school Challenge which sets the foundations for a healthy, active lifestyle by focusing on four key areas: ‘Eat Well’ which covers healthy eating, ‘Move More’ which promotes being active, ‘Growing Grub’ which teaches the children about where food comes from and growing their own fruit and veg and ‘Oral Health’ to ensure the youngsters maintain healthy teeth.
The Challenge is part of the Healthy Pompey programme to tackle obesity in the city. The Pre-school Challenge provides a wide range of activities, equipment and support for pre-schoolers, staff and parents.
The Busy Bees Nursery is located in the North Harbour Business Park.
Healthy Pompey is a joint Portsmouth City Council and NHS Portsmouth programme to promote healthy lifestyles in the city.
