Healthy Pompey Agency Project hits the road

Healthy Pompey Agency Project hits the road
July 12, 2010

The Healthy Pompey Agency Project hits the road this week to tour primary schools all over Portsmouth with an exciting new workshop promoting Healthy Pompey and Change4Life messages to Year 6 pupils across the city. The students will learn how an advertising agency creates a radio script and devise their own commercial based on these healthy living messages. Each school will compete for the chance to have their adverts turned into reality, professionally produced and aired on The Coast FM this summer.

The workshops, run by Amelix Youth Projects, will tour ten primary schools from 12th - 16th July teaching young people in Year 6 to eat well, move more and live longer, along with giving them the skills and knowledge to create their own unique radio advert script focusing on the Change4Life ‘8 Top Tips’ focusing on healthy eating and being active.

Healthy Pompey programme manager, Rachel Hatcher, said: “We will be taking the Healthy Pompey Agency Project into ten Portsmouth primary schools over the next week to teach children about the importance of healthy eating and physical exercise. It’s a great way to engage young people and the winning ad will be aired on Coast FM this summer taking the healthy living messages to an even wider audience,”

The workshops will also promote the re-launched Healthy Pompey website at www.healthypompey.com which features a searchable activity database where students can find healthy activities near where they live.

Delivered through interactive workshops, the Healthy Pompey Agency Project will get young people thinking about how to develop a healthy lifestyle and use their innovation and creativity to design their very own radio adverts. The best entries submitted by participating schools will be judged by a panel of experts on Monday 19th July, for the chance to turn their ideas into reality. The winning team will have their script transformed into a real radio advert to be unveiled on Monday 26th July on Breakfast for (106 & 106.6FM) and will be repeated through the summer reaching117,000 Coast FM listeners each week.

Amelix has been working with Healthy Pompey to answer any questions the students may have, and throughout the workshop young people are encouraged to think about all aspects of healthy eating and having an active lifestyle. There are also opportunities for numerous prizes to be won along the wayas the young people are empowered to make informed choices about healthy eating.

Healthy Pompey is bringing Change4Life to Portsmouth through a range of free projects to help local people to eat well and move more. Projects include City Growing to help people grow their own fruit and veg, a range of Food & Health projects to promote healthy eating options, Active Travel initiatives to encourage people to get about by bike and on foot and Yellow Kite, a social enterprise to provide healthy community catering.
