Healthy Pompey advert hits airwaves

Healthy Pompey advert hits airwaves
August 2, 2010

An advert promoting Healthy Pompey and healthy living is on the airwaves across Hampshire this summer thanks to a competition in Portsmouth primary schools. The Healthy Pompey Agency Project in association with Coast Radio gave Year 6 pupils the chance to create their own radio ad as part of a half-day touring workshop that visited nine schools in July.

Emily Mangham and Ashleigh Waterhouse, both 11,from Langstone Junior School were the lucky winners who travelled to the Coast studios in Southampton to hear their advert broadcast for the first time as part of the breakfast show on Monday 26 July. “It was hard to come up with all the slogans and to stop giggling when we were recording it, but it was good fun,” Emily said, during an interview with Coast presenter Mitch Johnson.

A special judging panel comprising representatives from Coast Radio, public health experts from Portsmouth City Council and NHS Portsmouth and members of the Healthy Pompey team selected a winning advert from the hundreds submitted from nine schools across the city. The 30-second advert to promote healthy eating, active lifestyles and the re-launched Healthy Pompey website is being broadcast on Coast at 106 FM during the summer holidays.

"The standard of the scripts was very high and there were some incredibly creative and amusing entries, but in the end we came to a unanimous decision and look forward to hearing Emily and Ashleigh’s on Coast over the coming weeks," Susie Waller, Head of Health Improvement & Development at Portsmouth City Council, said after helping to select the winning advert.
