Swap it, don't stop it!
New years resolutions don’t have to be about completely stopping things, after all no-one wants to deprive themselves of all the things they love drinking, eating and doing! Swap it, don't stop it, for a healthier happier new year. Here are a few of our ideas:
- Swap the lift and gain some extra steps of fitness by using the stairs
- Swap lunch at your desk for a brisk lunchtime stroll a couple of times a week, it feels good to leave a screen for the fresh air
- Swap large dinner plates for smaller ones to control portion sizes
- Swap time watching TV or playing computer games for fun new active hobbies, learn new skills and meet more people
- Swap snacking on chocolate and biscuits for snacking on dried fruit like apricots or cranberries, still tasty and sweet but healthy and count towards your 5-a-day
- Swap sitting for a long time to getting up regularly - go pour yourself a glass of water, any excuse to move more
- Swap being too busy and make healthy you time - even housework counts towards your daily steps, be imaginative and move more for your health.
You don’t need to do everything all at once, choose 2 or 3 that you know you can do and build them in to your daily or weekly routine. Then you can start adding more swaps over the course of 2012 for a healthier happier you.
